The EOMF is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. The EOMF works with government, landowners, industry, First Nations, non-government organizations and others to develop new ways to sustain and manage our forest resources. The model forest provides a unique forum where forest owners, managers, and users can forge partnerships, share their knowledge, and combine their expertise and resources.

Our guiding philosophy supports our desire to balance the economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainability within a mosaic of rural, urban-built and natural features. The rural and urban areas that comprise the overall landscape are fundamentally linked, and therefore cannot be treated in isolation when responding to issues of forest sustainability and community well-being. We also recognize that the landscape which supports our forest-dependent communities is characterized by both market-based economic value as well as natural capital in the form of ecological goods and services.

This past December the Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF) underwent a week-long audit to verify sustainable forestry practices and receive forest management certification for another five years. On January 28, 2018 the EOMF was issued a forest management certificate for the next 5 years, extending until January 27, 2023.

The Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF) is thrilled to be the recipient of funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport under the Ontario150 Partnership Program

Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve partners with Bluesource Canada to leverage the value generated by the Ontario carbon market to commit to long-term stewardship that maximizes CO2 emissions sequestered by the forest.

Cooks Mills Farms owned and operated by Paul and Denice Robertson recently achieved Forest Stewardship Council^® (FSC^®) certification (FSC^® C018800) through the Eastern Ontario Model Forest's (EOMF) Forest Certification Program.

The Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF) has partnered with Bluesource Canada to develop a program to generate carbon offsets for community forests that are certified through the EOMF Forest Certification program.
